MiniLit stands for ‘Meeting Initial Needs In Literacy’. MiniLit is an evidence based, practical, systematic, explicit and effective model for teaching reading skills. It incorporates the ‘five big ideas’ of phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. Students at the end of Kindergarten are assessed for suitability to undertake the program in Year 1. The students undertake the program with a trained paraprofessional 4 days a week for an hour each day.
MiniLit skills are integrated into all classrooms as all teaching staff have completed the 2-day professional training course.
